Prose, 'Giant Despair visited in his Castle', 29 July 1828
Scope and Contents
Handwritten prose titled 'Giant Despair visited in his Castle', with a preface signed by James Montgomery: 'The above formidable title may with great propriety be given to the following humble and affecting narrative, in which a simple-minded disciple of the meek and lowly Jesus ventured, in his Master’s name, to encounter a personage not less cruel and unrelenting to miserable negroes that fell into his clutches, than Giant Despair himself was to unfortunate Pilgrims whom he found trespassing on his grounds'.
