 Sub-Series — Box: Dewhurst Papers Box 66
Reference code: 431/7/11

Scope and Contents

Letters, notes and postcards from Keith to Eve Pearce, his first wife, throughout their relationship. The first 25 letters and notes are all from Keith to Eve between September to December 1956, apart from one letter dated 31 Dec 1956, written by Eve but not sent. The letters include arrangements for plans to meet, as well as discussions about the possibility of Eve’s divorce.

The remaining letters cover the period from 1958 to 1987, throughout their marriage and later divorce. The letters and postcards sent from Milan and Germany in 1958 by Dewhurst are from when he was reporting on Manchester United’s World Cup matches. One postcard (12 August 1958) from Keith mentions that ‘Bobby Charlton says to give you his regards’. Also included are a number of birthday cards and love notes, as well as later letters from the late 70s/80s after they had separated/divorced. Also included is a note about Keith Dewhurst’s life and career up to [1971].
