Around 7,000 colour and black and white photographs, contact prints, postcards, slides and negatives. Subjects of photographs include various circus performers such as Lilly Yokoi, Pete Cooper, The Paulos, Family Paulovitch, Jimmy and Luigi Folco, Faltyny Troupe, Alegria Brothers, Glavaski Duo, The Argentine Devils, Mik and Mak, Miss Nives; circus animals; fairground scenes; transport and living wagons; circus infrastructure; putting up and taking down circus infrastructure; other circuses such as the Chinese State Circus, Roncalli, Medrano, Circus Agora, Circus Maximum, Circus Benneweis, Knie, Arlette Gruss, telesnaps; stills from televised broadcasts of Billy Smart's Circus such as on the BBC and This is your Life; Royal visits; celebrity visitors such as Elton John, Bruce Forsyth, Jane Mansfield, Roger Moore, Margaret Rutherford, Peter Sellers; family photographs. Some records in this series contain offensive language.
