Biography
Charles William Poole Jr. was a Panorama and cinema manager as well as a lecturer.
Charles William Jr. was the son of Charles William Poole (1858-1918) and his first wife Elizabeth Deborah Nott.
Charles was born in Taunton in February 1880. His parents separated while he was still a child and Charles was put under the care of his aunt Anne Bynorth (nee Poole) who brought him up.
Charles had three siblings in total, sister Lillian Maude (1879-1946) and half-brothers John Reginald (‘Jack’) (1882-1950) and Vivan George (1893-1929). All the siblings went onto the family business Lillian performing as a vocalist, Vivan as a lecturer, Charles junior as a lecturer and manager and John Reginald also as a lecturer and manager, and later proprietor of his own Myriorama.
Chales became involved in the family business at a young age, managing some of his uncles' Myriorama shows including H. & F. Poole Myriorama by the time he was in his early 20s. Over the years he became involved in opening cinemas at Taunton and Teignmouth and during the 1920s and 1930s he was running the Empire Cinema at Newton Abbot.
Charles and his wife Emma had two daughters Ivy and Sadie.
