Biography
Designed by W. G. R. Sprague, the Lyceum Theatre originally opened in 1897. A traditional proscenium arch theatre, this 1,068-seat listed building is Sprague's only surviving design outside London. Following its closure in 1968, the Lyceum underwent a £12 million renovation and reopened in 1991. The Lyceum's programme is diverse and comprises of opera, ballet, contemporary dance and West End hits as well as its own productions.
The Lyceum is now part of the Sheffield Theatres complex with the neighbouring Crucible Theatre and Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse (situated inside the Crucible). The theatres are operated by Sheffield Theatres Trust Ltd.
