Biography

Disneyland Paris is a large entertainment resort located in Chessy, near Paris.

The resort contains two theme parks, several hotels, Disney Nature Resorts, a shopping, dining and entertainment complex and a golf course, as well as other entertainment venues.

Disneyland opened its doors to the public on 12 April 1992 as Euro Disney, however, due to Europe going into recession in August that year, the park started to suffer financial difficulties from the offset and by 1994 there were rumours of bankruptcy.

On 1 October 1994, Euro Disney changed its name to Disneyland Paris and the following year there were signs of recovery with new attractions being built. By July 1995 Disneyland Paris was able to report its first profit and attendance was raising.

In 2002 a second theme park was built and the resort once again changed name to Disneyland Resort Paris. Despite some turbulent economic results at the beginning of the twenty first century, the French government reported that Disneyland Paris had contributed 37 billion euros in tourism related revenues over twenty years to the French economy and supported on average 55,000 jobs. In 2018 the park announce plans to expand its attractions including three new areas based on Marvel comic books, Frozen and Star Wars films and a new lake.

On 15 March 2020, Disneyland Paris was closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The park was reopened on 15 July, and closed once again on 29 October 2020 following governmental lockdown guidance. In May 2021, Disneyland Paris was planning to reopen on 17 June 2021.
