Ian Tyson closed his former press, Tetrad, after twenty-five years because he felt that he had gone as far as he could with it. He then began a new phase in his experimental artwork by creating ed.it, a press in which he could focus on producing computer-based works of art, doing away with using a printing press altogether. Amongst the important works represented in this collection is Vert(ical) (2003) where the images in the wordless ‘text’ are replicated as the three dimensional sculpture atop the lid of the box in which the book is kept.
Ian Tyson has also collaborated with other presses including Trigram and Granary, the latter of which co-published, with ed.it, Tyson’s A propos “Le livre” (d’après Stéphane Mallarmé) (2002) in an edition of thirty copies. He also produced a concertina-style artwork to accompany a CD of Brian Ferneyhough’s – Time and motion study II – published by Optic Nerve in 2001.
Please see the Tetrad Press Collection for further details about the artist.
