Biographical / Historical

Phillip John Lord (1930-1969) was born in Lancashire, and studied music at the Royal Manchester College of Music (1948-1951), Manchester University (1948-1952) and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge.

After national service as a Russian translator in the Intelligence Corps, Lord became an Assistant Lecturer in Music at Aberdeen University in 1956, moving to a similar post in Sheffield in 1959, becoming Lecturer in 1960.

Lord produced a wide range of compositions between 1950 and 1968, as well as a number of scholarly writings. He was an experienced pianist, organist and conductor.

Phillip Lord died in 1969.
