Scope and Contents
Press cuttings and other material relating to David Blunkett's political career in Sheffield and his leadership of Sheffield City Council. Includes material relating to: a Sheffield peace rally in support of nuclear disarmament led by Blunkett, April 1982; boycotting of the government's enterprise zone strategy by Sheffield City Council, September 1982; visit of Sheffield delegation to its twin city of Donetsk, Ukraine, and the resulting joint declaration of opposition to the existence of nuclear weapons signed by council leaders of the two cities, September 1982; visit of a delegation from Pittsburgh, USA, to Sheffield, November 1982. Also includes copy of New Statesman containing an article by Blunkett 'A truly public transport', 19 February 1982; reprint of original 1932 booklet entitled 'Six Years of Labour Rule in Sheffield' with a foreword written by Blunkett, 1982; and a letter from Blunkett to the Secretary of Sunderland South CLP, withdrawing his name from consideration for the selection of a Labour candidate for the constituency, June 1982.
