Scope and Contents

Correspondence concerning space and resources required by Blunkett and his team in the House of Commons, mainly dating from 1987 to 1989. Includes correspondence concerning: a report regarding additional resources needed by Blunkett submitted to the Services Committee, includes a list of 'additional equipment needs and facilities', November 1987; transcript of evidence given by Blunkett and his secretarial staff Jean Booth and Elizabeth Welfare to the Select Committee on House of Commons Services, Accommodation and Administration sub-committee concerning the issues he faces as a blind MP relating to work space and equipment, January 1988; increase in Blunkett's office cost allowance, 1988; issues with familiarisation training of Blunkett's new guide dog, 1988; brailling the forthcoming Housing and Local Government Bill, 1989; and requirements for an additional equipment for Blunkett's staff including an Annuciator screen, telephone lines and modem for braille transcription services, 1989.

Also includes a note written by Blunkett for Kirklees Council, outlining the equipment and resources used in the House of Commons including a Theil Braille printer, a Kurzweil reading machine plus assistance from staff and external agencies, and the methods he used during his time at Sheffield City Council, February 1989.
