Scope and Contents

Files mainly relating to a review of the third sector resulting from Blunkett's work as Chair of the Labour Manifesto Group on the Third Sector - a working group reviewing the role and place of the voluntary, community and not for profit sector for future policy developments. The group published 'Mutual Action, Common Purpose: Empowering the Third Sector' in November 2008. Includes: agendas and papers for meetings of the manifesto group 2007-2008; campaign pack for Labour MP for engaging with the charitable and voluntary sector; lists of charities invited to consultation events; feedback reports from consultation meetings with third sector organisations around the country; draft versions of 'Mutual Action, Common Purpose'; and submissions for the report from members of the manifesto group.

Includes follow-up work following the publication of the review including material relating to a national volunteer programme (see 467/20/1/7 for further material) and reports of other voluntary and community schemes, 2009. Also includes a folder containing files relating to Balsall Heath, a deprived area of Birmingham which was transformed by the work of a local neighbourhood forum, 2009-2010.
