 Series
Reference code: 467/6/1

Scope and Contents

A series of correspondence relating to Blunkett's work as Home Secretary maintained by his Sheffield Office, and originally labelled 'Home Office'. Includes correspondence with organisations, local government officials, police authorities, and individual members of the public on issues relating to home affairs which have been sent to Blunkett's constituency office and copies forwarded to special advisers or ministers within the Home Office to action, often accompanied by instructions from Blunkett. Also includes correspondence directly with constituents which relate to Home Affairs, plus invitations to Blunkett to speak at a range of conferences and events in his role as Home Secretary. Correspondence covers a variety of issues including asylum, immigration, prisons, drugs, police and crime and includes detailed immigration/asylum case files relating to individual constituents (closed access - not individually listed). Arranged chronologically. Due to the volume of correspondence from 2002 onwards files have been catalogued by month. Bundles of correspondence have been filed by the most recent date, so older material is sometimes present within each file.
