Scope and Contents

Mainly contains correspondence from individuals and organisations regarding education and employment policy which has been forwarded from Blunkett's Sheffield office to civil servants and ministers within the DfEE. Includes correspondence concerning: DfEE arrangements for funding voluntary sector partnerships, with Elisabeth Hoodless of CSV (January 2001); funding for lifelong learning including the Cicero project through the New Opportunities Fund (20 March); awards of government training contract, with Pitman Training Centre Sheffield (April 2001); female circumcision (FGM) and monitoring incidence of girls being taken out of the country in secondary school (April 2001). Also includes: document entitled 'CSV reports on the road to independence: evaluating a volunteer scheme for 16-25 year olds' (Feb 2001); press cuttings concerning attacks by Chris Woodhead, former Chief Inspector of Schools, of the government's education policies (March 2001).

This file also includes correspondence dating from after the June 2001 election when Blunkett was appointed Home Secretary, including follow-up letters from issues he had dealt with as Education Secretary, plus correspondence from constituents and others which Blunkett's office have forwarded to the DfEE.
