Scope and Contents

Mainly contains correspondence from individuals and organisations regarding education and employment policy which has been forwarded from Blunkett's Sheffield office to civil servants and ministers within the DfEE. Includes correspondence concerning: the teaching of human biology with the author Margaret Drabble (5 January); performance related pay for teachers (18 January); support for Robert Ogden to be given a knighthood for work in education (21 January); a press cutting from the Sheffield Star 'Blunkett failing pupils', (14/15 March); social capital and youth service, with Elisabeth Hoodless, Executive Director of the CSV (21 March); the Cicero project - a community activist project based in Sheffield (3 May); globalisation and social policy, including notes from Professor Alan Walker of University of Sheffield (2 May); issues with Individual Learning accounts with Ian Johnston of Glasgow Caledonian University (30 May); funding for the Special Needs Inclusion Playcare Project (SNIPP) part of Sheffield Out of School Network (20 June); national funding of schools with Bob Kerslake, Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council (3 August); objections from some religious groups to the use of computers and the internet in schools (September-October); disparity in schools' funding in different areas of the country (26 October); responses to a ministerial review of governing bodies (November) including a copy of the document 'Consultation on School Governing Bodies'.

Also includes: 'Citizenship for 16-19 year old in education and training: report of the advisory group' presented to Blunkett in July 2000; copies of letters to Tony Blair and Barbara Roche concerning a PIU [Public Interest Unit] report on the economic aspects of migration (21/30 August); and briefing note from DfEE regional Policy Division concerning regeneration funding (20 September).
