Scope and Contents
Contains correspondence between Blunkett/his legal representatives and press organisations including newspaper editors, journalists and the Press Complaints Commission. Mainly contains correspondence directly with newspapers concerning corrections required to articles concerning Blunkett, but also contains some cases which have been referred to the Press Complaints Commission. Correspondence is organised chronologically and mainly relates to the years 2008-2010. Includes correspondence concerning press coverage relating to: inaccuracies in reporting concerning calls for Sheffield Wednesday's manager to be sacked, 2000; inaccurate information regarding Blunkett's resignation as Work & Pensions Secretary, 2008; references by a number of newspapers to Blunkett having personally 'fast-tracked' his partner's nanny's visa extension, when this wasn't found to be the case, 2008-2010; the phone hacking scandal, and Blunkett's settlement with News International, 2011.
