More Miseries, 1 April 1807
Scope and Contents
Tenth print in the Miseries of Human Life series. A duellist and his second stand together, both trembling, in a sandy space among trees. In the middle distance (right) his antagonist marches up aggressively, arm-in-arm with an obese, truculent second. On the left a far surgeon waits, holding a bag of instruments. In the background is a waiting coach (right). Below: 'Sending a challenge, requesting a timid friend to attend you to the field, who you think will not fail to acquaint the magistrate of it, going with honour to the appointed spot, anxiously looking back every step to see if the Bow Street officers are coming without seeing a soul but your Antagonist and the seconds.' Description from the Catalogue of Political and Personal Satires Vol. VIII.
