Scope and Contents

Blaess writes to her parents after they received a letter from her aunt panicking about the situation in Paris. She wants Blaess to go back to the UK but she reassures her parents that this won't be necessary and that everything is well. She expresses her concern regarding the Belgian refugees, as she has seen a lots of cars and trucks filled with children and belongings. She admits she hasn't been able to work this week. She met with her friends Dilys, Ruth and Barbara. Blaess reveals she almost visited the morgue with the pharmacist student. She is relieved it didn't happen because she feels she is too fragile for it, although she is positive she will someday. She writes a further update on Saturday morning - she feels everyone is very calm, no sirens/alerts yet. She says Dilys keeps telling her she works too much but Professor Cohen asks her why she hasn't read certain book yet. What she finds demoralising is that sometimes she spends hours on one little thing, and the result is disappointing or useless. She understands that now why some writers use ghost writers. Blaess says she hasn't read all of the books because she is keeping some for when she is back in York. She then explains a bit of her outline and her plan to write some chapters. She's happy her parents' garden is pretty and full, she can't wait to go back to touch grass. She reveals she hopes to be back the first fortnight of June. Blaess says for now they don't give visas because Paris just became a zone for the army. She asks her parents for a letter, in which they will ask her to come home, so that she can show this to the visa office.
