Scope and Contents

Blaess tells her parents about her visit to the Opera with Nora. It has been snowing. She is so tired she won't do anything at all, even reading. She hasn't felt great and needs to rest. She will inform her aunt that she won't visit her or Yolande for two Sundays straight, but only at the last minute. Norah apparently wants to stop doing her PhD. Margaret is failing her exams and apparently her dissertation is really bad. She finally met with the commander's cousin - after a lot of delays and postponing. They met at his desk in Chamber of Deputies (Parliament) and they talked about Merlin. He is a librarian, archivist and palaeographer. He does not know much about 11-12th century (the periods that Blaess is interested in), but only up to 14th century. He did give her one or two good recommendations on museums to visit. They share common opinions on certain points about Merlin. Apart from that, they are quite different. She prefers the commander to him. He is nice, but not really helpful, and she finds his knowledge to be only superficial. Madeleine adds a few words on Saturday: she is tired, has been working a lot, and is still copying the big Merlin book by hand because having someone to do it for her would be very expensive. She is wondering if anyone she knows in England around Leeds could do it. Blaess also mentions the children at her lodgings, that they like her and have dinner with her. They speak English and they ask her random questions on every topic. Blaess says the captain is listening (he can understand English but can't speak it), so they keep the conversation to minimum and she avoids saying to much. She is very secretive and never say anything to anyone about her or her life.
