The plot follows a German mercenary who is hired to defend the small township of Manchester during the English Civil War. Theatre 625 was a drama anthology series transmitted on BBC Two between 1964 and 1968. The episode had a higher than usual budget as it was intended to mark the coming of BBC2 to the north of England.
