Biographical / Historical
After the closure of the Withymead Centre in 1967, Champernowne founded the Gilbert Champernowne Trust in 1969 in an effort to keep Withymead's principles and spirit alive. As a registered charity, the Trust's main objective was to make more widely available the facilities previously offered at Withymead. As part of the Trust music, art and movement therapists collaborated with psychotherapists in the Cotswolds, Devonshire, London and Gloucestershire. The Trust enabled art therapy classes for children at a Child Guidance Clinic in Cheltenham and training schemes for students. As part of the Gilbert Champernowne Trust, Champernowne and others planned an annual residential course, and this later became a yearly summer course held at Cumberland Lodge in Windsor Great Park. The Gilbert Champernowne Trust appears to have been renamed as The Champernowne Trust in 1978
