Steam Engine and Agricultural Machinery Catalogue Printing Blocks, c1880 - 1930
Scope and Contents
Etchings and woodcut printing plates mounted on wooden blocks which feature images of steam engines, agricultural machinery, brick and clayworking machinery, wheels and medals made by Savage Brothers Ltd of King's Lynn. Some of the blocks have 'Savage Bros' handwritten on the edges. Some blocks are stamped by the maker 'C. W. Koppel draughtsman and engraver on wood, 74 Fleet Street, London, E. C.'. One block is stamped with the journal title 'Industrial Motor Review' and 'IMR 384'. The printing blocks were used in Savage Brothers Ltd catalogues which advertised the machinery they could manufacture (see 178I7.23 in the David Braithwaite Collection; and the NFCA pamphlet Illustrated Catalogue of Traction and Portable Engines, Agricultural Machinery etc. etc. Savage Brothers Ltd c1900 NFCA PAM SAVA/712).
