Biography
Born in Edinburgh, he gained a confidence in his vocal ability when in his childhood. He was presented to Mr Harris, manager of the Covent Garden theatre who hired him for a seven year contract. He received a flattering reception for his part in the first show, “The Duenna”. He married a Miss Norton in 1816. Upon completion of this period, he went to France and Italy before returning back to England.
