Biography

Chris Barltrop is a ringmaster, actor and all-around showman from Walthamstow, London.

Chris has spent most of his life working as a ringmaster, circus manager and publicist around Europe for circuses such as the Grand Cirque de Noël, Moscow State Circus, Gerry Cottle's Circus, Jimmy Chipperfield's Circus World, Billy Smart's Circus, Zippo's Circus, Santus Circus, the Netherlands National Circus, the Great British Circus, Continental Circus Berlin and many others.

Between 1987 and 1988 he was the Marketing Manager for Theatre Royal Newcastle Upon Tyne and between 2002 and 2006 he worked as Producer and Reporter for BBC local radio. Over the course of his career, Chris has played many roles on theatre and television and featured in pop music videos for Rick Astley and Prefab Sprout.

In 2015 Chris founded The Centre for Circus Culture to promote knowledge and understanding of the circus and over the years he has advocated for the circus at government level as the Chairman of the Circus Industry Sub-group and DEFRA Circus Working Group on issues regarding animals in circus and licensing for travelling circuses.
