Biography

Thomas Worsley Staniforth (1845-1909) was a composer of hymn tunes including 'O Thou our souls´ salvation', which, in February 1872, was sung at St. Paul's Cathedral in a thanksgiving celebration for the recovery from typhoid of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's eldest son.

Staniforth was also organist and choirmaster at St. Paul´s Church, Brighton, and later organist and music master at Highgate School, London. In 1904-1905, he contributed articles on music and church history to the Sheffield Telegraph.
