Biography

Magdalene Elizabeth was born in c1788 to Michael and Sarah Hengler. She followed her parents’ footsteps becoming a wire walker and pyrotechnic specialist. Magdalene worked with her mother in the family’s pyrotechnic factory providing fireworks for Astley, Ranelagh and Vauxhall Gardens among others and by 1841 she had taken over the business.
