Biography

Moira Anne Rettie was born on 12 November 1937 in Castle Douglas near Dumfries, where her parents ran the local cinema.

In 1951 Moira moved to Glasgow to live with her aunt and uncle Rose and Arthur Hancock, after losing both parents. Rose and Arthur run Arthur Hancock fairground in Partick, a site often visited by the Robert Brothers circus.

In 1960 Moira started to work at the circus where she met Bobby Roberts junior and five years later they were married. Moira joined the Roberts circus where she started preforming as a sharpshooter and archery act and later formed a double act with her husband, which they named Bobby Ringo and Princess Moira.

Moira and Bobby regularly appeared in Glasgow, Blackpool, Brighton, Manchester, Great Yarmouth and with Billy Smart’s Circus in London.

Eventually Moira and Bobby formed their own circus, 'Bobby Roberts Super Circus', which travelled until 2011.

Bobby and Moira had two children, Kitty and Robert (Bobby), both of who continued with circus business, Kitty and her husband Istvan Sallai travelled the family circus under the name Circus Sallai and Bobby III worked as a clown.

Moira died on 8 November 2018 aged 80 years old having spent her entire life involved in the circus.
