Biography

The Hippodrome in Aldershot, Hampshire, opened on 3 February 1913. From its inception the Hippodrome offered a wide range of entertainments including variety shows, pantomimes and musical comedies, which overtime expanded to moving pictures, circus acts and plays.

The Hippodrome started to decline in the 1950s due to the popularity of cinema and the advent of television. Like many other variety theatres, The Hippodrome turned to presenting nude revues in a desperate attempt to maintain the business. The theatre eventually closed in 1960 and was demolished a year later.
