Biography

The Sheffield Metallurgical and Engineering Association (SMEA) was founded in 1894 as the Sheffield Society of Engineers and Metallurgists. A related group, the Society of Metallurgists and Metallurgical Chemists, was formed in 1917 which became the Sheffield Metallurgical Association in the early 1930s.

In 1963, the Sheffield Society of Engineers and Metallurgists and the Sheffield Metallurgical Association merged to become the SMEA.
